Falcons fall; Crusaders win big to advance; Thanksgiving recaps
On Friday night, the Lansdale Catholic Crusaders put 46 points on the scoreboard to defeat Palisades in their District 1/11 AA matchup. They now advance to the PIAA AA Championship quarterfinal matchup against Dunmore, who defeated Riverside on Friday night.
After taking the opening kickoff 85 yards to paydirt, Pottsgrove took an early lead over Garnet Valley in their District 1/12 AAA game. Going into halftime, the Falcons still led 14-13. However, Garnet Valley's offense proved too much as they scored 28 second half points to end Pottsgrove's season with a 41-22 final score.
In the Thanksgiving Day games, Phoenixville, Upper Perk and Pottstown all scored 40+ points in their respective wins to round out the PAC-10 league schedules. The Phantoms used a second half surge to dominate Spring-Ford, 48-7. Upper Perk traveled to Boyertown to defeat the Bears 44-14 in a hard-hitting matchup. This marks the second win for the Tribe since the Boyertown-Upper Perk Thanksgiving Day game tradition was restarted eight years ago. In Pottstown, the Trojans struck early against Owen J. Roberts and never looked back enroute to a 41-20 win, despite OJR pulling with seven points during the third quarter.
On Wednesday night, Pottsgrove hosted St. Pius in a rescheduled Thanksgiving Day game (due to Pottsgrove District championship game). After taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, the Falcons exploded in the second quarter with three touchdowns to take a 28-0 halftime lead. Pottsgrove would score twice more in the third for a 43-0 final score.
