Pottsgrove Goes 9-0; Claims PAC-10 Crown

The 2008 football season came to a close on Thanksgiving Day with the four annual games. The Pottsgrove Falcons defeated St. Pius X by a score of 49-14 to go undefeated in league play and capture the 2008 PAC-10 football championship. In the game, Pottsgrove’s sophomore Maika Polamalu ran for 242 yards and 2 TDs while sophomore Terrell Chestnut ran for 3 TDs.

In the 50th renewal of their rivalry, Owen J. Roberts beat Pottstown 34-13 to finish their season at 8-1 in the PAC-10. Sophomore Ryan Brumfield ran for 219 yards to give him 2,264 yards on the season for a new OJR school record. Dan Miller, OJR’s senior QB, threw 2 TD passes and ran for another 2 scores.

Boyertown defeated Upper Perkiomen 16-14 on the strength of 3 Aaron Sassaman field goals and senior QB David Crognale’s arm and legs. Crognale threw for 214 yards including the Bear’s lone TD. He became the first player in the PAC-10’s history (and also Berks County history) to run and pass for at least 1,000 yards in the same season. Junior Shawn Wenhold ran for the 2 Upper Perk scores in the loss.

Phoenixville used a strong fourth quarter to earn a comeback win over Spring-Ford 18-10. Trailing 10-3 in the fourth quarter, the Phantoms scored twice on runs by senior Abdul Kelly and junior Derek Ryan to earn the win and finish 7-2 in the PAC-10. Spring-Ford’s senior QB Trevor Sasek closed out his career by passing for 193 yards in the loss.
